Created in 2009, the Saumur Puy-Notre-Dame appellation covers a group of vineyards in the Saumur region located in 17 communes around Puy-Notre-Dame.
Le Domaine du Vieux Pressoir can claim to be one of the driving forces behind this AOC, as part of the team of winegrowers who fought for the appellation's recognition. A handful of winegrowers embarked on the adventure, without any means or support, and with one goal in mind: to create a top-of-the-range Loire red wine. From this idea, the most stringent production and vinification criteria were imposed.
Our aim was not to achieve a large production volume, but to produce a quality wine: Saumur Puy-Notre-Dame.
Today, around 20 winemakers are producing this high range wine and commit themselfe to respect some stric production rules :
The Domaine du Vieux Pressoir has chosen not to market its Saumur Puy-Notre-Dame wines before 1 September of the following year of production.
The colour of our Saumur Puy-Notre-Dame is an intense red. It offers aromas of ripe candied fruits, the tannins are supple and the mouth is long and structured. It expresses itself fully, between 13 and 16° and will accompany a whole meal. A wine for laying down, it can be kept for more than 10 years in the cellar.
Its aromatic structure will allow it to be well paired. It is perfect with grilled red meats and is ideal for meats in sauce, such as rabbit stew or beef stew.
